Yoruba Council Calls For State Of Emergency In Plateau Over Massacre Of Residents By Gunmen

The Yoruba Council Worldwide has decried the mass killings in communities in Plateau State and called for a declaration of state of emergency in the state.

Dalena Reporters reported earlier on Sunday that gunmen believed to be herdsmen invaded Shere village in the Jos East Council where two residents and one of the assailants were killed.

DalenaReporters reported that Sunday's attack came barely one week after jihadists attacked and sacked 15 communities, killing about 200 people and burning 221 houses in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi council areas of the state.

Reacting to the recent attack, the Yoruba Council in a statement issued on Sunday by its President, Aare Oladotun Hassan Esq, lamented the violence and killings.

Hassan said members of the council were shocked and disturbed by the heinous and barbaric killings.

He offered their condolences to the people of Plateau State, particularly the families of the victims.

"It is heartbreaking and barbaric to see how humans live; mothers, fathers, youths, and helpless and hapless children are miserably cut short with sophisticated weapons and macheted in cold blood in their native land," the group regretted.

The statement further read: "The Yoruba Council Worldwide condemns this evil in totality, precipitating our clarion call to President Bola Tinubu for swift and active response and as well the attention for resolution of the National Assembly to activate Section 305(1) of the Constitution for the proclamation of State of Emergency against the terrorist marauders, in order to frontally quell the crises.

"A three-day warning notice be issued to all persons to submit and mop-up all arms and ammunition in circulation and their possessions to the nearest police station, after which a shoot aside be effected simultaneously against anyone or groups in Plateau State.

"We call for a thorough investigation into the incident and demand those behind these heinous attacks be brought to book and face the full wrath of the law.

"We call on the good people of Plateau State and Nigeria at large to be security conscious and raise alarm to alert the security agencies on blackspots and give valuable information as at when due."
