Group Threatens Mass Protest Over DSS Arrest of Kogi PDP Chieftain Austin Okai on Governor Ododo’s Alleged Orders

The Kogi Conscience Liberation Movement (KCLM) has strongly condemned the recent arrest of Comrade Austin Usman Okai, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain. The arrest was allegedly ordered by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo. KCLM has labeled this action as an act of intimidation and a blatant violation of democracy and human rights.

In a statement released on Wednesday, National Coordinator Comrade Peters Onuma and General Secretary Comrade Jacobs Okpanachi demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Okai by the Department of State Services (DSS). They emphasized that if there are any valid charges against him, he should be properly arraigned in a court of law rather than being held in indefinite detention.

"We demand that the DSS immediately release Comrade Austin Usman Okai unconditionally or charge him to a competent court," the statement read. "Any attempt to detain him indefinitely or subject him to inhumane treatment will not be tolerated."

KCLM has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the DSS, warning that failure to comply will trigger nationwide protests. The group also called on civil society organizations, the media, and Nigerians at large to stand against what they describe as an era of impunity.

"Nigerians will not stand idly by while voices of justice are silenced. We call on all well-meaning citizens to join in resisting oppression and ensuring that justice prevails," the statement added.

Reports indicate that heavily armed security operatives arrested Okai at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Wednesday morning. While the official reason for his arrest has not been disclosed, sources speculate that it may be connected to his outspoken criticism of the Kogi State government.

As tensions rise, there has been no official response from the DSS or the Kogi State Government regarding Okai’s arrest. Okai's wife has expressed concern, stating that the DSS did not present an arrest warrant during the operation.

The situation continues to develop, and citizens are urged to remain informed through credible news sources.
