Lagos-Based Doctor Olaleye, Initially Sentenced to Life for Rape, Allegedly Relocates to UK After Appeal Court Acquittal

Dr. Femi Olaleye, the Lagos-based medical practitioner and Managing Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2023 for defiling his wife's 16-year-old niece, has reportedly relocated to the United Kingdom following his acquittal by the Court of Appeal in November 2024.

The initial conviction was overturned by the appellate court, which cited errors in the lower court's judgment and deemed the prosecution's evidence as "tainted" and "unreliable."

Dissatisfied with this ruling, the Lagos State Government has appealed to the Supreme Court, seeking a reversal of the acquittal.

In a statement released on Friday, the Executive Director of the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence, Gbenga Soloki, claimed that Dr. Olaleye fled Nigeria immediately after the Lagos State Government filed an appeal against his acquittal. Soloki further alleged that Olaleye has initiated a media campaign against his estranged wife, Mrs. Aderemi Olaleye, the judiciary, and the police, accusing them of bias.

Adding another dimension to the case, Soloki revealed that Olaleye’s lawyer, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro, has formally withdrawn from representing him, stating that his engagement ended at the Appeal Court. Efforts to serve Dr. Olaleye with Supreme Court appeal documents have reportedly been met with challenges, as he allegedly responded via WhatsApp that he has relocated to the UK.

Soloki described Olaleye as a "serial pedophile," alleging that he routinely drugged and raped his clients, with purported video evidence to support these claims. He also mentioned that prior to relocating to Nigeria, Olaleye was reportedly involved in multiple cases of sexual abuse in the UK while working in a well-known hospital.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Aderemi Fagbemi Olaleye has indicated her intention to seek redress in court, maintaining that the truth will eventually prevail. She has chosen not to comment extensively on a matter already before the court but is determined to clear her name through legal means.

The case continues to unfold as the Lagos State Government pursues its appeal in the Supreme Court, seeking to reinstate the initial conviction and sentence.
