Xi Jinping and Kenyan President William Ruto Pledge to Build a China-Kenya Community with a Shared Future


On April 24, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Kenyan President William Ruto, who was on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two leaders announced the decision to build a China-Kenya community with a shared future for the new era.

President Xi highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 62 years ago, China and Kenya have consistently respected and supported each other, advancing their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Elevating the relationship to a community with a shared future is a strategic choice aimed at deepening mutual respect, equality, and win-win cooperation.

He emphasized the importance of jointly advancing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), enhancing policy communication, promoting sustainable trade, and encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest in Kenya. Both countries, as members of the Global South, aim to safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and promote global governance based on extensive consultation and shared benefits.

President Ruto expressed Kenya's commitment to strengthening ties with China, highlighting the mutual benefits of their cooperation. He acknowledged China's support in Kenya's development and emphasized the shared vision for modernization and prosperity.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their dedication to deepening bilateral relations and contributing to global peace and development.
